October 23, 2013, the
Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights marks 20 years since its
establishment "20 years fighting for your rights". At the Russian
State library was held а
round table meeting dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the World Vienna
conference on human rights and Human Rights Day 2013. The event focused on some
of the most significant achievements in the field of human rights over the
course of the past two decades. The meeting was supported by the UN Information
center in Moscow and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for
human rights. This meeting was attended by experts Vyacheslav Bakhmin (member
of the Moscow Helsinki group and participant of the Vienna conference) and
Ryszard Komenda (The Senior Human Rights Advisor to the UN Country Team in
Russia). Master’s students studying at program of the Department of
international law, PFUR "International Protection of Human Rights"
also participated in the meeting and during the session they asked questions
regarding the role and results of the Vienna conference. After the official
part of the meeting students had the opportunity to communicate with the
participants of the conference and discussed further on thematic issues in
Human rights.
