On December 12, 2013 the UN office in Russia
held a discussion with the youth audience under the XIX-th Stalker International
Film Festival. The roundtable was held at the Central House of Journalists and
was dedicated to the celebration of International Human Rights Day. During the
meeting the participants considered achievements of the Vienna conference in
1993 in the context of Russian realities, emphasized the universal nature of
human rights and discussed the ways of involvement of the journalistic
community to a global movement for the promotion and protection of fundamental
human rights and freedoms by means of Mass Media. The free form of
communication allowed to speak out on the subject of various issues raised in
the Stalker film festival, such as the struggle against all forms of
discrimination, prevention of gender inequality and violence against women, the
rights of persons with disabilities, as well as migrants. The discussion was
attended by professional journalists, representatives of the UN agencies in
Russia and the Russian Union of Journalists, film directors participating in
this Film Festival, as well as the students of the PFUR master's program «International
Protection of Human Rights».
