The Department of International Law, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, celebrated the Lawyer’s day by organizing a round table about current issues of international space law on December, 3. The round table was held in English.
The meeting was opened by Dr. A. Solntsev, Deputy Head of International Law Department. Sergio Marchisio, Full Professor of International Law at University La Sapienza of Rome, Director of the Institute for International Legal Studies, Chairman of the European Centre for Space Law (ECSL/ESA), made a keynote presentation on the legal dimension of the sustainability of outer space activities.
The second speaker of the round-table was Professor G. Zhukov with the question “Prospects of formation of international space law”. O.A.Volynskaya, international law counsel of the Federal Space Agency of the Russian Federation, spoke about the Russian political problems and perspectives concerning space. M. Kulikpayeva, L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Kazakhstan) PhD student, dedicated her report to international legal regulation of outer space activity in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Current issues of US-NATO`s Eagis Combat System application in the light of international space law analyzed A. Yu. Klunya, PhD student of the International Law Department, PFUR. A.S. Voronina, PhD student, National Research University Higher School of Economics, finished the round table meeting with her speech “Codification of international space law”.
After the session, the guest of the Department Professor Sergio Marchisio and Dr. A.M. Solntsev had a meeting with the dean of the Law Faculty Prof. V.F. Pon’ka, where they discussed the prospects of future cooperation with University Sapienza of Rome and Chairman of the European Centre for Space Law.
It should be noted that the European Centre for Space Law in cooperation with International Institute of Space Law organizes each year the European Round of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, in which the Department of International Law, PFUR, participates for the third time (http://intlaw-rudn.com/islic).
