HREA has launched a third introductory e-course: Human Rights in Europe. This course takes between 3 and 10 hours to complete, yet is completely self-paced and thus can be spread out over days, weeks or even months depending upon the situation of the learner. To successfully complete the course, learners have to pass assessments throughout the course. Upon completion, learners receive a certificate of completion. Tuition for this introductory e-course is US$ 50. Tuition payments can only be made on-line by credit card (MasterCard and VISA).
The introductory e-courses are an addition to the specialised (11-week) distance learning courses, offered since 2002, and the short (6-week) certificate courses that HREA started offering last year. The introductory e-courses are primarily intended for those who want a quick introduction into a human rights-related topic through readings and rich multimedia, including videos and podcasts.
The first introductory e-courses on Rights of Refugees and Displaced Persons and Rights of the Child were launched last year and have received very positive feedback. Additional introductory e-courses on International Humanitarian Law, Introduction to Human Rights, Women's Human Rights, Prisoner's Rights, the African Human Rights System, and the United Nations Human Rights System will be launched later this year.
